At the age of five, I announced to my parents that I wanted to be an artist. They supplied me with paint, brushes and enthusiasm. Since then, I don’t remember ever being bored or lonely. I was happily occupied doing something that I loved. I painted my way through high school and received a scholarship in textile design, at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. Diploma in hand, I was soon employed as a stylist for a large textile house, having an opportunity to work with the city’s best designers. In these early years, I had the added benefit of being able to put my husband through medical school. After I had my first child, I began to freelance my designs from home. It was then that I returned to my first love, painting.

My works have evolved over the years. Always working to perfect my craft, I continued to study with a variety of working artists and began to more seriously exhibit my work. The work has evolved to include a variety of media, but painting always drew me back. Soon, I was showing in regional galleries and my work was included in private and corporate collections. My most recent works are oil paintings, inspired by the sea. Spending time near the water’s edge is often a spiritual experience for me. It’s about light, reflection and sound. There is a quiet peace here that I seek to capture my work. It is a landscape that evokes both the beginning and the end. There is a purity in addressing the horizon. It is where I find my center. Each piece calls to mind a specific inspiration, a place and time on a particular day directly related to the colors I see, the light in the sky and the weather which produced them. I hope to bring my viewer back to that specific place and moment in time and let them rest there. - Patricia Rosenthal
